During her visit to Dorset The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, toured the Museum which has just completed a major £16.5m redevelopment project.
Funded partly by a donation of £9.6m from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the project has reinforced The Tank Museum’s status as a museum of international importance. The Queen unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the opening of the redeveloped site which includes a new tank arena and the new 50,000sq ft exhibition, `The Tank Story`.
This innovative new exhibition tells the story of the tank and its crew from its invention in World War One to the present day using 33 of the most important tanks in history. By putting these incredible machines into a human context, the exhibition brings the story of the tank and its crew to life.
